Feedr's Top 7 Healthy Comfort Food Vendors in London

Diets and Christmas do not a great mix make. Hence, January is a month when many plan to detox from the holiday indulgences. But when it’s cold and dark outside, a cold salad or superfood wrap doesn’t always match up to the hearty goodness of a melty mac-n-cheese or a rich steak and ale pie. Since time-immemorial, comfort foods have been associated with being unhealthy. However, we are here to show you that eating well doesn’t have to be a chore! We at Feedr are celebrating the vendors dishing up healthy comfort food to hungry Londoners, full of rich flavours and interesting textures to keep you satisfied and inspired through to the spring. Read on to discover our top 7 healthy comfort foods for January 2018.

1 – Olive & Squash

With the advent of 2018, you vowed you’d start “eating better”. But every once in a while, that shawarma craving hits you. Hard. It’s ok, it happens to the best of us, and luckily enough, Olive & Squash have just the thing to satisfy that craving for the Middle Eastern delight. This warm falafel and aubergine wrap with red cabbage and baba ganoush will hit the spot while allowing you to stay true to your resolution.

2 – Mildreds

This vegetarian and vegan restaurant is not afraid to play with bold flavours. If you’re in the mood for something a little different, go for their Sri Lankan sweet potato and green bean curry. It comes with roasted lime cashews, pea basmati rice, and coconut tomato sambal. If you’ve taken on Veganuary, maybe try the delicious-sounding black bean burrito, complete with guacamole, salsa, corn, and red rice for a filling and flavourful feast.

3 – Spice Box

Being a gluten-free vegan must be dreadful, right? WRONG. Spice Box offers show-stopping Indian-style dishes that are both vegan and gluten-friendly, and incredibly healthy. Take their tandoori cauliflower steak for example. The cauliflower is rubbed in tandoori spices, grilled over charcoal, and served with a coriander pesto sauce over a bed of either brown basmati rice or quinoa with fried onions and cumin seeds. Our mouths are watering…

4 – 90 Degree Melt

Everyone loves a good grilled cheese toastie. That’s a fact. And 90 Degree Melt have taken these cheesy wonders to the next level, with their menu of American comfort food. And there’s quite a selection to choose from. The Waldorf boasts a cheddar, brie, rocket, green apple and nut interior, with caramelized red onions, while the aptly-named Donald Trump Mexican serves up smoked chipotle sauce, roasted peppers, baby corn and cheese. If you’re stuck for choice, don’t fret, as these guys recommend ordering 2-3 of their ‘melts’ for a filling and satisfying meal. Now that’s something we can definitely get behind!

5 – Toshka

Living in a highly-urbanised city like London, it is easy to forget what life on the other side is like. I’m talking slow food, potatoes pulled out of the soil the morning they’re roasted, and good country home-cooking. Toshka bring country food with a city twist to the capital’s hungry populus. The concept is simple – all dishes start with a base of roasted root veggies, then topped with your prefered selection of sides. The Cheesy Farmer caught our eye; grilled halloumi, a fried egg, roasted sweet & savoury potatoes, onions, spiced kale, mushrooms, parsnips served with pickles and sriracha, all tossed with artichokes in olive oil. Now this will definitely help you reach your 5-a-day!

6 – Ethos Foods

This London-based catering company and business lunch provider are known for their colourful salads and meatless restaurant. They seem to have a penchant for Thai curries, which definitely puts them in our good books! I mean look at this gorgeous Thai green veggie curry. No doubt it’s hard to resist indulging in these hearty dishes that keep you coming back for more.
