We caught up with WOLF’s Operations Manager, Ross Baker, to find out more about their offerings and the wildly unique burrito on their menu filled with spaghetti!
Q: What’s the inspiration behind your business?
A: At WOLF we have always been big on flavour and the ability to have your food the way you want. Being located in the Arndale Centre in central Manchester, our create-your-own burritos and pastas have been such a hit with the work crowd.
With so many other successful create-your-own food brands, we thought ‘Hey, Why not do the same with Italian – fresh, fast and fierce food!”
Q: Where are you from and how has that shaped the business?
A: Originally from Lincoln, I moved to Manchester in 2011 and worked in the hospitality industry straight out of school. I slowly climbed my way up the career ladder to where I am now. Working in all aspects of the business from fine dining to casual concepts allowed me to bring a unique perspective to WOLF and push the brand to new heights.
Q: How would you describe your food in 5 words?
A: Fresh, Hunger-Banishing, Bold, Flavour-Filled, Fierce.
Q: What’s your favourite meal on your menu?
A: The Spicy Chicken Piada (Burrito) is my favourite, an Italian burrito?!?! What more could you want! Bold, hard-hitting flavours on a bed of spaghetti all wrapped up in a warm flatbread is just on another level.
Q: What’s the most underrated item on your menu?
A: The Diavolo Pizza is probably the most underrated dish. People see the spicy sauce base and might be scared to try it but it’s a real subtle heat that lifts the whole pizza. It’s a personal favourite and it deserves more love!
Q: What’s your favourite part of working in this industry?
A: I’m very much a social person! Meeting new people and being a part of their day brings me joy. I also enjoy working in a fast-paced environment as it keeps me on my toes and constantly challenged.
Q: What should we order from you when we want to celebrate?
A: Our 11″ stone-baked pizzas are perfect for a party! Our secret pizza base sauce sets them apart from the competition and they’re a must-try for any gathering!
Q: What is your top tip for eating better?
A: Variety is key. Food is supposed to bring people happiness and sustenance and it shouldn’t be a chore. That’s why we love our create-your-own options – there’s just so much to choose from.
Q: Is there anything you’d like to share that highlights what makes your business stand out?
A: The ingredients and flavours are the heroes of our business. We start from scratch every day and for a casual dining brand, that’s not very common. We pride ourselves on being uncompromisingly delicious.
Q: What part of your business are you most passionate about and why?
A: The customers are our passion! We wouldn’t be where we are today without our WOLF Pack.
Q: What’s the ingredient you always find yourself reaching for when you’re cooking at home?
A: Garlic on everything! I’d put it on my cereal if I could.
Q: What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten?
A: On a trip to Bali we had a Nasi Goreng – a southeast Asian fried rice dish. It was incredible and no matter how many times I make it at home, it’s never quite as good (although the lovely surroundings probably had something to do with that…)
Q: What are you up to when you’re not in the kitchen?
A: I’m usually out and about with my adorable dog – she’s called Kimi, a 5-year-old American Akita. She’s a queen!
